300 Rise of an Empire Movie Plot Details

Director Zack Snyder revealed a few details about the plot of the movie 300 Battle of Artemisia (previously titled Xerxes):

"This movie follows Themistocles and the Battle of Artemisium, which coincidentally happens on the exact same three days as the Battle of Thermopylae [which was the basis of 300]. This one starts off with a quick retelling of the why of the Persian wars. It starts off at the Battle of Marathon and then it goes back to Themistocles finding out that Persians are invading again. and off we go over to learn a little bit about why Xerxes is the way he is."

All right, bring it on then!

Xerxes Movie - 300 Sequel - 300 Prequel - 300 Rise of an Empire

Xerxes Movie - 300 SequelFans have been yearning for a movie sequel to 300. Well, they'll probably get it but first they'll be treated with a movie prequel to 300. Frank Miller is indeed working on a prequel to his graphic novel 300, the project, titled Xerxes, is set 10 years previous to 300.

The studios are definitely thinking about turning it into a film. No wonder, considering the original earned $456 million at the box office. Besides director Zack Snyder who directed 300 already expressed his interest for the new film. So we may consider that the movie Xerxes is a done deal and that it will enter production soon.

Frank Miller recently talked about his 300 prequel, Xerxes:

"It's the battle of Marathon through my lens. I've finished the plot and I'm getting started on the artwork.
[...]
The fact and the myth are inseparable and, believe me, when you go sailing for a while in the Aegean Sea, you start believing in Poseidon."
Frank Miller

It's not Xerxes, but his father Darius who fought the battle of Marathon. But hey, we can't blame Frank Miller for messing around with history: at the end he's going to deliver a gorgeous action-packed show after all.
